Finally, I never thought I would be able to own this one. I have had a few holes in my album for 1909-S VDB, 1914-D and 1931-S. These coins are some of the toughest for me to get as a low budget collector and I have considered just going on with knowing I would never be able to have them. Recently I was able to go into a BIN for this ANACS Graded Damaged, F-15, 1914-D for $160.
Here is my 1909 DDO VDB Lincoln. Not a particularly rare date but I think the DDO adds some character.
I felt like those Lincolns in the early '30's are difficult to find in an honest MS condition, but I finally found a 33 P! I also feel San Fran strikes to be difficult to come by in high AU/low MS. Regardless, I did find this '27 S on Ebay. I purchased a couple weeks ago, though may need to be upgraded at some point as I am not sure I would qualify it as a high AU coin.
I HIT A JACKPOT!!!! Several months ago I submitted to NGC an unopened 1964 mint set for grading because I needed the half dollar to fill a gap in that set. The coins came back and all except one was graded MS66, which I thought was extremely lucky on my part. My 1964 Lincoln Cent came back MS 68 RED!!! I just put it away not really paying much attention to it while I worked on my Kennedy half dollar set. I then for some reason thought that the penny was unusually highly rated and I pulled it out and did a search on eBay, Stacks, Heritage, etc. I then pulled up the NGC pop report and found out my coin is one of (2)TWO rated as such. I started trying to find a price guide for comparison and could not. I sent emails to several individuals asking for assistance and none could provide me with any clue as to my coins value. I had one individual from Heritage tell me that the coin could only be a Proof if graded at MS68RD. I have since sent it to Ian at Great Collections and he is working on sending it to PCGS to get it crossed to their slab. He stated that if the coin comes back as being able to cross it could bring more in a PCGS slab (I have never sent a coin to an auction house, so I do not know why PCGS slabs would bring more $ but I will leave that to him with the stipulation that the coin will only cross if it crosses at the same grade). IF anyone in the CT world has opinion(s) I would love to hear them. I am awaiting a response form Ian at GC and will post when received. HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!!!!
