lil' upgrade from HC... still looking for the 63 at the right price. LongBeach is always has good selection, but those CA fat wallets tend to drive the price for even subpar coins in a grade well over retail after the buyers fee. We'll see.

Aloha fellow Copper lovers. There hasn't been a Matte Proof Lincoln posted a little while, how about I post mine? This one is graded PCGS PR-64 RB and purchased for $1,200 last January, also just paid this coin off last month. I hope to upgrade to a much higher grade, maybe a BN monster. Enjoy it!

Also, be sure to click on the pictures to enlarge them, as they appear, they aren't their original size. I guess the method to upload from Photobucket. Man, I just love MPL's to death! They are so under valued.

Thanks Robec! I know it's not quite as nice as some or yours, but man, I am still happy to have this one! I almost didn't buy this one because of the finger print, but it was a killer price and everything else was positive, including the toning. The seller has a nice 1909 in PR-64 RB that was a little nicer, but he was asking $2,400 for it. I couldn't afford it at the time. But I've learned to ignore it.

Just thought I'd post another Lincoln. Here's a more recent purchase, a semi-key date that I've been wanting to buy for a while. It's not the bigger S VDB but it's still an S! 1909-S Lincoln PCGS graded F-12 and picked up for $90. And this was a STEAL!

Again, click to enlarge. I know they aren't the best pictures in the world, but these are the best I could do.

Before I post this coin on here and make a fool of myself I am asking what are the tell tails of finding out. Thanks for the help.

    We need pictures!

Not the correct thread to post this in, but I will see what I can do. A lot of higher grade 1909 VDB business strikes do have MPL characteristics, when they are really not a Proof. There's tons of business strikes out there that are very identical to MPL's. It's pretty unlikely that you've come across an 09 VDB MPL like that, they are incredibly rare in all grades. I have a 1909 VDB cent that looks a lot like an MPL, when it's only a sharper struck business strike. If you are looking at a 09 VDB MPL, buy one that is already certified. But expect to spend thousands. I've seen tons of MPL's in person, and I still have trouble spotting them.

Hey Robec, I hope it's ok to use a 1909 VDB MPL picture from your website as an example.

Anyways, here's a 1909 VDB MPL for comparison. As I am not sure on all the die diagnostics for this particular date.

What coinguy said! There's a TON of MPL-like 1909's out there but the real deal MPL's are extremely rare.....so don't get excited gonzo. Chances are slim to none you have an 09 MPL.

Oh I know like I said in my post I think. Not to worried about it I love the coin I got so regardless it won't change anything. I will post pics of the coin here shortly. Thanks everyone.

Besides certain diagnostics, another way to determine proof from business strike is to look at the rim. It needs to be razor sharp, not just flat, but straight edge sharp with a 90º angle on the edge. Not beveled.

And they must be like that on both sides ALL the way around. I've seen many non-proofs that are close, but there's rim degradation at some point if you look close enough. I have yet to see a biz strike that had perfectly square rims all the around.

Even with those small pics I can tell it's not a MPL.

I just posted this in the New Acquisition thread, but it needs to be here as well. Freshly purchased from Lehigh.

Is it not illegal to have a living person on a US coin? I will limit my comment to that because the rules state that it can not be political. I will just say that I will not order one from the mint. So much for limiting my post. I do understand that it is not a coin though, the mint comment may have thrown someone off
