Normally, I don't do stories, but here's one for New Years: This is the actual pic from eBay that I bid on and won... I wish I had a pic of my face when I opened the mailer.... I now resides in a PCGS MS63BN, CAC...
Was it your expectation that there should be a "D" on there? If so, this was a killer buy, somebody was sleeping at the wheel! What a bad eBay picture.
Bad eBay picture? The slab says 1922-D. My guess is that it would be a weak "D" in stead of a no "D", but he did not state which in his post.
Yes, bad eBay picture. As in the pictures are too dark to discern the area where the mint mark should be. Otherwise, an absent "D" will be huge target among Lincoln collectors looking for this key date. Along with the slab description being wrong. With everything put together, I don't think the seller had any basic knowledge of the series, let alone coin collecting.
Share a recent purchase for me. Generally do not buy slabbed coins, but like to have an example of some of the TPG's through time. OBV of the slab is scuffed.
WOW! That's a GREAT 22D! Awesome character and very representative. It's hard to believe that coin survived the years.
The old slab description wasn't wrong, just incomplete. The coin is a 1922-D weak-D, not to be confused with a 1922 no-D weak reverse. Still, a wonderful surprise and a great story. WTG! Lance.
What's even more interesting is that this coin was probably made just before they swapped out that reverse die. That lead to the infamous no D, strong reverse coin. I often thought about making a progression set that shows the various 22-D die states. After working on it for some years, I abandoned hope as it is too difficult and expensive to assemble.
What do you all think AT or NT? I still like them either way especially the 1968D reminds me of the sunsets in Iraq.
This 1917 in PCGS 65 BN is a newp for me. Replacing my MS 64 RB that had a fingerprint I couldn't ever get over. Matt
Hello Matt; Nothing Irkes me more than a lovely coin with a disgusting unsightly fingerprint on it. It is my pet peeve. I can totally understand how that MS64 bugged you!
