[QUOTE="giorgio11, post: 2278968, member: 17094"]I decided to repost the little story about this coin that I wrote on another forum. You might enjoy it, as it speaks to how obsessive collectors can be about their coins. Spots grow, you know ...

"So, I had to post this one. I had another 1964 Kennedy half, PR69DCAM PCGS, that I bought from a fellow maybe six years ago. I think it was accurate for the grade but it had maybe three TINY -- and I mean MINUSCULE -- INSIGNIFICANT -- completely PICAYUNE dark spots on the obverse. I liked the coin. Except. Every time I looked at the coin, those spots got a little larger, finally assuming GARGANTUAN -- HUMONGOUS -- I mean, completely BROBDINGNAGIAN proportions.

"I knew I would have a tough time replacing that coin, and I did. I sold it in a Heritage Auction maybe a year after I had it, before those spots could assume ELEPHANTINE size. I took a small loss. So I bought a nice 1964 PR68DCAM PCGS Kennedy off of eBay --this was back on a day that I caught everybody else sleeping, I think [you can't do that as much anymore; or maybe I am just sleepier now myself] -- and bided my time.

"I'm glad I did now. Recently a nice fellow contacted me and asked me did I want this [the coin above]? He said he bought it some 10 years ago from a fellow named Rick Tomaska the guy who wrote the book on Cameo and Ultra/Deep Cameo proof coinage of the 1950 to 1970 era. Tomaska, selling him the coin in 2005, said it was the deepest Deep Cameo mirrors he had seen on an example of the date. I tend to agree. I was doubly pleased that I had seen the coin on eBay and remarked to myself how nice it looked in the photos even before I heard from the owner.

"It took four years to replace it.
