Here is a design that most likely started the revamped reverse for the Kennedy half. It is on a Franklin D Roosevelt medal. What I do know is these medals do not come up very often, especially in hand transactions. I hate the wipe, but I figured I might not see another.
These pictures don’t do the coins justice. They are from a mint sewn bag, and must have been from new dies because they are very shiny. Nothing special other than shiny. Still loaded with bag marks, rubs, etc.
Missed this in June but still close enough to reply. I think this "squeezed" and elongated art-deco design for the FDR medal reverse is itself revamped...or modeled...from the various, longstanding circular presidential seals, of which the Kennedy reverse reflects an updated version almost exactly as the one at that time, esp with the 50 outer stars for the states, plus the older 13 "clouds" and 13 inner stars for the original 13 colonies (also on the FDR medal). Cool medal...thanks.
Two 1964 Kennedy half-dollar, a gift from my parents. His head, his smile and his eyes are so perfectly rendered. Just noticed I should clean them (maybe with water and soap); they seem to be a bit dirty:
