64 64 1969-S cameo proof Toney '64 2014-W high relief reverse proof. This is one of my favorite coins in my entire collection.
Just one and is birthday present. December I have to wait. Xmas set or a SP could be one thrown in from West point I have been told.
this was a toss up between sending it in with the 2015 D Kennedy. I felt this coin would not grade at least a 65, so I marked it a 63. Would you agree?
I think this new one pretty much speaks for itself ... The fellow I bought this from said he bought it from Rick Tomaska 10 years ago, and Tomaska said at the time it was the "finest Deep Cameo he had seen." Now that I have it in hand, I have to agree. It's nicer than the one that just sold at Heritage for $4200 and change. Enjoy! Best Regards, George
I decided to repost the little story about this coin that I wrote on another forum. You might enjoy it, as it speaks to how obsessive collectors can be about their coins. Spots grow, you know ... "So, I had to post this one. I had another 1964 Kennedy half, PR69DCAM PCGS, that I bought from a fellow maybe six years ago. I think it was accurate for the grade but it had maybe three TINY -- and I mean MINUSCULE -- INSIGNIFICANT -- completely PICAYUNE dark spots on the obverse. I liked the coin. Except. Every time I looked at the coin, those spots got a little larger, finally assuming GARGANTUAN -- HUMONGOUS -- I mean, completely BROBDINGNAGIAN proportions. "I knew I would have a tough time replacing that coin, and I did. I sold it in a Heritage Auction maybe a year after I had it, before those spots could assume ELEPHANTINE size. I took a small loss. So I bought a nice 1964 PR68DCAM PCGS Kennedy off of eBay --this was back on a day that I caught everybody else sleeping, I think [you can't do that as much anymore; or maybe I am just sleepier now myself] -- and bided my time. "I'm glad I did now. Recently a nice fellow contacted me and asked me did I want this [the coin above]? He said he bought it some 10 years ago from a fellow named Rick Tomaska the guy who wrote the book on Cameo and Ultra/Deep Cameo proof coinage of the 1950 to 1970 era. Tomaska, selling him the coin in 2005, said it was the deepest Deep Cameo mirrors he had seen on an example of the date. I tend to agree. I was doubly pleased that I had seen the coin on eBay and remarked to myself how nice it looked in the photos even before I heard from the owner. "It took four years to replace it. I think it was worth the wait. And meeting an exceptionally nice, courteous new fellow collector was gravy on the turkey." We now return to our regularly scheduled programming ... Best Regards, George
Angie, what is that? It was struck without a collar, and it pre-dates the halves. That's one cool whatever-it-is.
