For us "foreign junk bin divers" there's no greater satisfaction than finding a real deal/steal when sorting through hundred or even thousands of coins on a lazy Saturday afternoon. Here's some of my favorite finds:
There are two coins that caught my interest. First one is the Korean 1/4 yang which is supposedly dated 1898. This is a contemporary counterfeit. However this does not mean that it is worthless. At one stage as the price of nickel fell, it was very profitable to make counterfeit 1/4 yang. The situation got completely out of hand as these managed to circulate for a temporary period until 1901 where circulation of such coins were banned. Still see it going for 10 - 20 dollars easily. Not something that goes in a junk pile. The second coin is the Chinese East Hopei coin, 2 jiao dated 1937. This is a one year type and was not very popular as it was issued under the Japanese occupation.
Most of my coins were from junk bins and there have definitely been some good finds, but this is one of my favorites.
