Why thank you. I’m not particularly a cent collector but that was one of my childhood dream coins that I had to treat to before I depart this party.
PCGS called this one "questionable color". All I know is that it has looked exactly the same since at least 1970 when it was pictured in the 2nd edition of Al Overton's Early Half Dollar Die Varieties. 1794-1836.
There are plenty of non-details coins out there (we see them posted here on Coin Talk every day). A majority of the details coins in this thread are properly graded as details because they have a visible issue (cleaning, polishing, tooling, corrosion, damage, etc). They are still attractive (eye appealing) but that does not mean that the problem should be ignored when grading. Of course there are borderline cases or mistakes and those coins can receive a straight grade if cracked out and tried again.
ya I wasn't questioning if they were properly graded, just makes me think I probably have coins that I'm perfectly happen with that if sent in might end up as details. Not that I have anything worth sending in anyway, lol
