I like this thread. Unfortunately, none of my pickups were under $50 this year. You guys got some nice deals.
You will all probably hate me but I can't say I'm unhappy! But so I don't rub any more salt in, lets just keep it at under $50... for all 4, 1st issue uncirculated malta 1972 gold commemorative coins. Of course, I will never again have such good luck but it was a fun stumble and I am guessing I will never be teased for purchasing a lot of crap jewelry again or for digging thru boxes at an estate sale again!
Every time I see one of these And the dollar I laugh , not because of what people pay for these but a story about them. I work in the food business ,while in a food store break room one day having a working lunch I saw a sticker on a locker. The sticker was an add to promote this program of placing a penny or dollar into boxes of Cherrios. Well to say the least one of the guys at this meeting asked me what I was talking about.....so I told him. He begins to tell me that as a kid in 2000 he ate Cherrios morning noon and night. Then goes on to tell me he had founded several dollars and a lot more of the pennies . Then I asked him Ed what ever did you do with them....? I bought "ice cream" of course his reply. Now he knew I was a collector and said oh they couldn't be worth that much......you collect old coins. Then I told him...... he was like what??????
Thanks Frank , I truly couldn't believe my eyes ,as this one is right in your face. To think the seller had no clue ,and he sells quite a few coins. I was in disbelief .
