Thought I would start a thread featuring the most unusual, "fancy", gaudy, and just plain over the top coins that you can come up with.
Can be modern-to-ancient. It doesn't matter. Just the most unusual looking coins, or rounds/bars that you don't see daily.

Here's a couple to start with...

METATRON FROM THE CHOIR OF ANGELS SERIES...
    s-l1600 (85).jpg s-l1600 (86).jpg

SPIDER FROM THE MAGNIFICENT LIFE SERIES...

    s-l1600 (80).jpg
    s-l1600 (81).jpg

THERE ARE PLENTY OF THIS "TYPE" (out there) so feel free to post what you consider unusual, or unique. Private, or government minted, it matters not.

    John.

This was a gift from my son for Father's day last year. The Monkey is opal. The case has a built in LED which illuminated the Opal when you open the case. I have removed the battery from the case to avoid leakage and damage to the coin.

Lol, not very gaudy? more like "unusual" high relief, jewel, antique finish, etc... Very nice in hand for sure. METATRON.

Now that's what I'm talking about. To me, these are cool, and unusual. More a collectors item than coin maybe??? Even though monetized as coinage. Who cares??? They are cool in my book. Not everyone's cup of tea, but so what.

Here is the Austrian Mint's 2015 niobium coin Cosmology (the inner part has two colors of niobium and the outer ring is silver).

And one more for now, a curved silver French coin for the 2014 World Cup:

(there were two different types of packaging: the obverse is pictured in the typical original mint capsule with box; meanwhile the reverse picture is from Apmex packaging...I'm not sure why Apmex had different packaging...my guess would be it was a way for them to get the coin for cheaper without a box).

Interesting technological pieces. With a queen on them, more interesting. (I'm sure she's never had a penny in her life, while she still in life, isn't there any English gentleman out there?)

Let's continue this thread with another coin that I used to have:

The Choice Mint 3 oz ultra high relief Legends of Asgard Odin coin. The detail on this coin was fairly deep and it was an interesting idea. Unfortunately other mints jumped on the Norse Gods bandwagon and over-saturated the market. It did not help that this coin took two-three months to start shipping after it went on presale. I initially liked the coin, but it was not a favorite. So I let it go fairly soon after purchase.

And one more that I sold when downsizing my collection:

A titanium blue whale coin (where the coin was blue too). I recall these being mentioned in a Coin World article and always thought it was pretty cool. Multiple versions have been made over the years in different colors by the Pobjoy Mint.
