Muzyck - I own 5 examples and I see no evidence that any of the Uighurstan 10 cash are overstruck. However 20 cash coins were definitely overstruck Xinjiang 10 cash. I believe I have one that is overstruck over an Empire 10 cash. Unfortunately not much numismatics reference so it's hard to work out if such examples do exist. I would like to offload some duplicates in my collection, however turns out that there are so many varieties - I'll hang onto them for now. britannia40 - for your sake I hope the Kirin 10 cash is genuine. I'm leaning towards a counterfeit at the point of time.
Yes. I am not sure authentic or not until i get it in hand. If not ill send it back. Under 10$ was a cheap try. I just got these 2 today 1912 10 cash Unsure date. Tsingkiang(Qingjiang, now Jiangsu)
Thank you for that info. I was unaware the 10 cash were not o/s.I only made that comment because years ago (1991) Scott Semans had one for sale that he claimed "clearly shows undertype (Hupeh 10 Cash)" and Krause also lists the 10 cash as all "made by overstriking". I purchased my first one from Scott in 1991.I see no signs of overstrike on mine. Here is one currently up for sale..
Just purchased this 1 today. 1905-06 Empire 5 Cash not the greatest pics. I will post more once I have it in hand. these 2 I got 3 days ago. 1906 Fukien 10 Cash 1907 Empire 20 Cash
Just sent this off to grade at PCGS yesterday. Top left to right with anticipated grade. 1. 1914 Manchuria 20 Cent MS 2. 1949 Yunnan 20 Cent AU 3. 1906 10 Cash AU 4. 1903 Hupoo 10 Cash AU 5. Circa 1920 Warlord 20 Cast Cash VF-XF
Pretty nice set. I'm not too sure if I have seen such "cast" coin, especially coming from Hunan Province. I'm certain it's a contemporary counterfeit. Here's one example. Original coin was struck in Shanxi Province Here's another suspected example As for the origin of such warlord cash coins - these were made in Gansu Province. If I am not mistaken, Gansu Province has always been economically worse off compared to other provinces and it does not help that they are poor in natural resources as well. Most other provinces have access to metal mines. Guizhou Province is also another area where it lacks natural resources except antimony. The warlords needed to raise cash and melted down circulating copper coins and cast them into cheaper brass alloys. Somewhere along the lines I believe for one coin they melt down, they were making about 5 coins on average I am not aware that they had the technology or know how of machine struck coinage. These actually did manage to circulate and are still somewhat plentiful to find today.
we shall see if your right. its with PCGS right now. Heritage auction guarantees the authencity so im not worried about it. PCGS got the pic and said they grade it. They don't grade contemporary counterfeits as far as I know. The refused to grade the 5 Fun overstrikes.
Sent these 5 to NGC on 27th Dec. Grades just popped. 1. 1928 Honan 100 Cash XF ED (color got me again) 2. 1917 Yunnan 50 Cents AU Details Cleaned 3. 1920 Honan 20 Cash AU55 (needed or my set) 4. 1906 Honan 10h.3 10 Cash AU53 (needed or my set) 5. 1949 Yunnan 20 Cents AU58
I am intrigued -I would like to know what reference PCGS uses to identify it as a warlord coin. Quite a few nice copper coins you've got there. I still have yet to find that 1917 Yunnan 3.6 mace coin. Honan is home to quite unusual large copper coins. I've got some - not the best condition but you get the idea. Honan 100 cash Honan 200 cash This one seems to be quite scarce - Honan 1931 50 cash I did miss getting crown size silver coins when I had the opportunity. This is the smaller counterpart.
I asked her again when i dropped off another set. She said she emailed the grader and forwarded my email and pictures. Mainly i wanted to ensure they wouldnt charge me if refused to grade it. They ship to the US on the 11. So 3rd-4th week of Jan should know. Those are nice. Thanks for sharing. Ive got the 1920 50 cash and the 1928 100/200 cash. Not found the 1931. They can be pricey. I only have 1 crown size a common 1914 fatman.
Sending 2 groups to be graded. Yes there is 1 british coin in there and the last is cleaned and wont be graded. Got it in mainland.
Britannia40 - it's a bit hard to confirm what exactly the original host was meant to be for the overstruck coin. The year is unfortunately flatten out / unclear in the large photo however I am more than certain that it is 1898 5 fun. While we are in the topic of Honan cash, this might be of interest Instead of the legend "Honan", this has "China" on it. There's other varieties for this coinage - I think there's one for 20 cash and a rare "star legend" for 20 cash as well.
