Since I haven't yet been able to swing an actual double eagle, can I sneak in with a $50? (This was listed as Uncirculated, but once I got it in hand, I began to suspect it's a proof. ) I've been trying to decide whether I prefer this variant or ASG's original design. I think I have a slight preference for the original, but they're both glorious, IMHO.
Lehigh96, is there any coin you don't have that is just BEAUTIFUL!! To tell you the truth, I have never seen a rainbow-toned Saint before.
Here's one of mine. The reverse has some significant hits for an MS64, but I'll take it, thanks PCGS.
Everytime you post a pic of any of your coins, my eyes pop out. I keep having to go to the doctor to get my eyes popped back in. Great coins Lehigh
I truly believe the reason that happens is because I focus on eye appeal first and getting a good deal second.
I've got 5 double eagles for my type set with a nice spread of grades. I was going to post them until I looked at the images. They are all older, probably done with my old Coolpix and the lighting leaves something to be desired. Hence the grading factors are not obvious. I'll redo them and see if I can improve the images. Here's what I have: 1852 Liberty Head/without Motto (AU-53) 1870 Liberty Head/Motto/TWENTY D. (XF-45) 1888 Liberty Head/Motto/TWENTY DOLLARS (MS-61) 1908 Saint-Gaudens/without Motto (MS-64) 1924 Saint-Gaudens/Motto (MS-63) Maybe we'll be able to see the factors that influenced the TPG's when grading.
