Analysis has shown it to be over 90% tin with lead as an impurity. This uses the coroneted head punch seen on the 1860 patterns by Moore which are known to exist in a heavily flawed state. </p><p>When Shorthouse visited Moore&#039;s workshop in September 1886 there was no sign of the coroneted obverse die, so I surmise that the die cracked and was reworked by Moore to produce this with the revised legend as there are traces of underlying legend commensurate with the Peck 2135 obverse. Ex Magnay and Adams collections. Magnay acquired it from the dealer Patrick Deane, it having come from a US collection in 1984. If anyone has any info regarding a collection from this time including this coin, it would be much appreciated. Peck 1046 refers. Examination of the rust spots indicates that this type (KH5) was struck prior to type KH4. This is an extremely rare coin, with no examples coming to market in the UK in over 50 years - the last being in the Spink Circular in 1968.
