Rare. Metal analysis shows this to be approx. Fe 86.9%, Mn 0.8%, Cr 12.3%. Subsequent conversations with Graham Dyer, the former curator of the RM museum, suggested this was struck to test a metal mix with the dies chosen at random. Ex Colin Adams collection. Cross on Steps (obv. over Lis), struck sometime between 14th August and 7th September 1626 at a reduced weight of 80 grains per shilling (from 92.75 grains). This coin 13.04g instead of the normal nominal 15g.
