Rare. Metal analysis shows this to be approx. Fe 86.9%, Mn 0.8%, Cr 12.3%. Subsequent conversations with Graham Dyer, the former curator of the RM museum, suggested this was struck to test a metal mix with the dies chosen at random. Ex Colin Adams collection. Colin assembled the best and most comprehensive collection of this denomination to date.</p><p>[ATTACH=full]1531817[/ATTACH]</p><p><br /></p><p>Charles I lightweight halfcrown with mm. Cross on Steps (obv. over Lis), struck sometime between 14th August and 7th September 1626 at a reduced weight of 80 grains per shilling (from 92.75 grains). This coin 13.04g instead of the normal nominal 15g.
