No, that is likely where the coin dealer got it from, I bought it on eBay.

 

I picked up this Elizabeth I halfcrown at the Motcomb part II sale last November. Quite pleased as it is a rare die pair with the sceptre pointing to G (only 3 offerings on Noonans archive compared to over 50 with sceptre to I).



Unfortunately, Jessop only gave rudimentary information on his tickets, which in this case said Glendining 1945. Perusal of catalogues for the year frustratingly gives two options - Sir Edwin King lot 85, 23rd March 1945, very fine and sold for £4/10/-, or Glens 16th April lot 114, graded fine and sold for £3/10/-. It's probably the former based on the quality of coins that Jessop purchased, but I can't prove it.


If anyone bought anything at the sale and it has a ticket with a price on it as above, then please let me know, to help crack his pricing code.
