yeah, this should probably go in ancients forum. i only have a single coin of MA, an unlisted provincial...
Wow monetarium, fantastic new addition(s)!! => oh, and great coins, everyone!! Ummm, I'm not exactly sure why, but I still only have "1" stinkin' example of Marcus Aurelius!! ... but it rocks!! => a definite Wabi Sabi candidate!!
Thanks, stevex6! First time I see a coin with a griffin in it! What's your story with this rare one? Also, I love the coins with both Antoninus Pius and Marcus Aurelius
I really want/need more Marcus Aurelius coins! My only MA is this odd posthumous issue. Missing letters, encrustation, bizarre chicken/eagle that just laid an egg . Supposedly not a common coin but I don't really know much about RIC rarity ratings for this era (well, any era really ). The price was right and despite its strangeness (or perhaps because of its strangeness), it followed me home. MARCUS AURELIUS posthumous issue struck under Commodus in CE 180 sestertius; 27 mm, 22.8 gm. Rome Obv: DIVVS M ANTONINVS PIVS, bare head right Rev: CONSE[CRATIO] / S-C, eagle with spread wings on globe, facing, head left Ref: RIC 656 (Commodus)
