This is the "History of the Polish Cavalry" series. The coins are from 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2011. Don't know why they skipped 2008, but I think they did because I haven't been able to find reference to one. Here I'm just going to show the group photos, but I think they deserve their own thread for those that don't THINK they like coins from Poland. The coins are 2 Zl (zloty) and made of an alloy they call "Nordic gold". Common obverse (or is that the reverse?). The other side depicts Polish Cavalry troopers throughout the years. Rim/edge lettering is a simple set of initials alternating direction. These are difficult to image due to the color and shiny surfaces. In a separate thread I'll show detailed photos of each of the 5 coins. BTW...how much is 2 Zl worth? Seems like this coin would be about equal to a US dollar at a guess. Rob
I also picked up a 2010 coin commemorating the 600th Anniversary of the Battle of Grunwall. Also a 2 Zl coin. Rob
That name refers to an alloy originally "created" by Outokumpu (FI) and used by several Nordic countries, as well as for the 10, 20 and 50 cent coins in the euro area. As for obv/rev, the Polish central bank refers to the side with the country name and the eagle as the obverse. The commemorative 2 zł coins were issued at face but did not actually circulate - the specifications were different from the circulation coins. (That was one reason to stop making them, and issue the new fivers.) 2 złote is about half a US dollar according to pretty much every currency converter out there. Christian
