That Vergilius coin is cool indeed. From what I have read, the ox refers to work, the tree is a symbol of fertility, and the horse represents poetry. But I wonder whether they have anything to do with the Aeneid, particularly the part where Ulysses claims to be insane. Who knows ... And yes, those pieces are collector coins. Of course they did not stop issuing them at the end of the lira period, but I suppose that the changeover was an opportunity for some to stop collecting while for others it was a starting point. In my opinion, the recent Italian collector coins are too expensive, but many designs sure are attractive. Christian
