Ya know I love my coins, but I am just as thrilled by what's in the background under those coins too. It's not rare or anything, but it's a map of the Southern States placed under the glass of my desk. I tried so hard to figure out how to slide it under by using the edge crack that the glass sat down in, until I figured out how to remove the metal cord cut-outs and just lift the glass up. Had to trim the border just a bit, but on a $25 reproduction, I was alright with that. Now I look like one of those old war strategists with my map always spread out underneath my watchful eye preparing my next move and advancing my troops.
Mill rat, the reverse on that 83-O is awesome! The 99-O has some interesting toning. I'll bet it looks cool in hand. Can't forget the St.! Nice.
The '21 Morgan just lacks something. Although the intention was to duplicate the earlier design, it doesn't have the detail nor the "depth" as earlier Morgans. I added this one late last year. If I was going to own a '21, I wanted it to be a PL or DPL. This is a MS65 PL. Pop 41 with 4 higher @ NGC. Only a pop of 14 @ PCGS.
wow. amazing coin. jaw hit the ground when I saw the grade on this coin. thanks for posting it. envy is the word.
Got to look at this one in-hand today. It's everything I expected and a bit more. Just a tiny luster break in the field above her hair @ 2 o'clock. A couple tiny ticks on the devices, but really can't see them without a loupe! For a gold piece, this is very clean. The description that Scotsman Auction had for the coin is accurate IMO. They called it undergraded. If I resubmitted it, it would need to jump 2 points to make it worth my while. I don't believe it will make it. MS63
1898 quarter eagles got a nice low mintage of 24k too me I'd send it to cac and see if you got a gold bean.
I agree with Mainebill about sending it to CAC. It just might gold bean. Like you said, for a gold piece it is very clean.
I was thinking the same thing Bill. I have about a dozen I want to send in to CAC. The price for a 64 is not a big jump for this coin. The 65 is, but I'm not sure it would make that grade. Good advice. Thanks.
1898 $2+1/2 MS64 I would think Ngc should have graded it. Most graders at a Tpg get about 2min to look coin then write there grade. It's finalizer head grader who give the final grade. Looks like they miss it grade wise.
