I found that it was issued by an Auburn, ME boot and shoe manufacturer named Dingley, Strout &amp; Co. They manufactured footwear for the Union Army during the Civil War and were in business for many years after. I was so excited in finding the issuer, as much for me as for my father, that I&#039;ve been researching counterstamps ever since.
