D.Argos, I did discover the coin was most likely fake before taking possession of it after researching data bases on fakes & counterfeits. I emailed the president of the company with my findings & told him I wouldn't take possession of it if it reached my front door. Foolishly, I should have done my research before bidding on the coin . I later researched the company's archives & alerted them of similar suspicious examples, as you have done. What they did about it is none of my business.
Here's my small but growing collection...hopefully no fakes Anastasius Tiberius II Constantine Heraclius and Heraclius Constantine (III) Constantine VI, with Leo III, Constantine V, and Leo IV Constantine X Ducas Alexios I Komnenos Andronicus II Palaeologus
D.Argos, It looks like you're building a nice collection of Byzantine gold ! The Anastasius & Tiberius II Constantine solidi are both handsome coins .
beautiful gold! I wouldn't know if they are fake because i'm not experienced with being able to tell. as of right now i need to rely on experienced trusted dealers and i also get a second opinion if i'm not sure. I am getting a book though and i hope to study up on the subject so i can start relying on myself as well.
It took me forever, but I finally got around to this thread! Some of my personal favorites are below. A nice full face. I love the enthroned image. Very projecting! This hexagram is pretty nice. I like Theophilos’s loros.
These two arrived in the post today. Pretty common, and I will surely upgrade them given the opportunity, but they are nice coins. What I particularly like about the class B is that it is unusually big and the whole design fits comfortably in the flan. What can I say, I like big follis and I cannot lie...
That “irregular mint” Solidus of Heraclius has an interesting portrait style. What’s the rarity of such a piece?
