Yes but I never noticed the difference. Great to know. Gave too much for it at the time, $29. Maybe I'll get that back even with the corrosion.

Hey I would pay 29 for it any day. And if that's what you gave for it ...must of been some years back.

    Nice write up.

I know the early half dime is the go to but VERY pricey
How is the valentine reference guide for attributing?

Larry's first '31 is V-3 (better known now as LM-7) This is the second use of obverse 3 and the sixth use of reverse M. The obverse has a tiny die chip in the upper loop of 3. The reverse has lower right part of F filled by die chips. It is currently rated an R-2

Correct as I was looking at the 1832 in Valentine and missed the F filled with the corrosion on the coin.

Need help from you guys identifying which version coin I have of my bust half dime. I think this is a obverse 2 with a reverse M? I know nothing about its 'LM' value or 'R' value.
I've attached some pictures to help identify. Also on the reverse side, if you notice below the 'T' in 'UNITED' and above the 'E' in 'E PLURIBUS UNUM', there seems to be some kind of die error? At first I thought it was a scratch but it indeed is engraved and part of the coin. Does this add value to the coin? Is this common? Thanks

LM-5 (V-8) Second use of obverse 1 and the second use of reverse R. (The die crack through the first T to E in the scroll is diagnostic to this marriage. Probably the most common die marriage for the year.

I can see this is an old post because my first response showed a Half dime, which did not correspond with the post. So now since I can't seem to find a Bust dime, I will post another Half dime. 1847-Half Dime-Obv-33.JPG 1847-Half Dime-Rev.JPG

There's a site called everything about bust half dimes
Google it it has tons of reference and die marriages . Great photos, I have been using this site and a new book I pick up by Kevin Flynn , Valentine reference is ok but much to desired when it comes to having images and better text.
Flynn book is on seated half dimes.
As these are such small coins unless you have great images it's a hard call. The coin in hand plus both the site and Flynn ' s book makes half dimes a lot of fun.
