The same way they overlook fine hairlining from wiping coins with a cloth (except proofs). I recently saw what I believe is a slightly PVC etched coin for sale at Coin Rarities Online (CRO). In the case of my 1897, the problem is minor and from past experience, I expect it will straight grade when submitted to a TPG service.</p><p><br /></p><p>Here's an CAC-endorsed MS64 1874-CC half with about a dozen cupric salt crystals and etched light spots on its surface.
