Yeah, it worries me as well, it's some sort of hard gunk, there's some on the reverse too around the perimeter letters.
Thanks Mike, I appreciate the offer. The last three are the 92 O. the 96 S and the 97 S. I think for these last key dates, I'm going to need to start hitting the coin show circuit again. I want to see them in hand before I buy.
That 92 S arrived yesterday. Here are my photos I promised. She's probably had a wipe at one point in her 120 year journey, you can see some hairlines on the field in front of the nose. But I'm still very pleased with her. Perfect fit for my DANSCO and the look I'm cultivating for these American classics.
man oh man do my photos make the coins look crappy. Its a great tool for picking out all the imperfections but they always look way better in hand. Here are a few new ones - the quarters came from a large batch of barber quarters I just purchased and the half I recieved about 10 days ago On this next one - I was happy when I saw the reverse but then I flipped it over haha The pictures do not do this next one justice - very nice in hand and 99% of the marks are on the 2x2
It has been a little while since I have purchased any new Barber coinage but I think I made up for some lost time. This is without the most beautiful Liberty Nickel I have ever owned! The pics do absolutely no justice. It has full gem luster with virtually no marks and a light blanket of violet toning! Let me know what you think
I was watching three XF 40's that ended tonight - but until some of my duplicates start selling I have to calm down and take my time upgrading. BTW - LP - that's a great 96-O - ... remember you're saving for a new home, Mr. Newlywed....
Mike, Log Potato...I ALMOST bought my second Barber half today. ALMOST! Due to budget I can only afford to look through the junk bins. Usually I can find a Barber that still has decent detail left. Sadly, today was not one of those days. All of their halves were almost slick. I mean, the obverse looked like Mike's avatar. Just a sillhouette of Liberty. I DO have the Barber sickness, but sadly could not get my fix. Hopefully soon, as I really want something that looks better than my 1907 (one and only Barber half).
Hi all, First off, sorry for not getting back to you all for so long. Here's the toned '03 that originally got me hooked on Barbers... I've been infected! Sorry for low quality of pic, C.J.
CJ - Looks a lot nicer than a 35+ ... I see much luster ... an easy 45 ...IMHO !! Here's a coin I just bought back from a friend - its a tough date - and my friend upgraded this with an AU 58...
Thaks for your help Elbesaar That's actually the grade I bought it at (which is to say, I payed around $7 for a VF-35), but if it's a 45... I guess I did alright with my purchase. Thanks, C.J.
My 58 ( ex: Tom Casey ) sold last August @ HA. I came very close to keeping it, as it one of my favorite dimes. The coin whose image I just posted, came out of my raw Dansco.
(Dimeguy stands from his seat partaking in forming a circle of addicts) Hello. My name is Brad. (Group says, "Welcome, Brad.") I have recently became a (hands begin to shake, holding a select few 2x2s.) Barber Dime addict. (Group begins to applaud.) Just today, I was in my local coin store, trying my best to learn how to grade those beautiful Barbers, and well, I came across this one. Had so much more detail than the others, and those dirty little spots...they....well they just make me smile thinking of what circulation stories it would have to tell me, so I adopted it. It's now home, a start of my collection, and even though it's not a 16S Merc, it will be treasured. Well, guys, what you say, will you all welcome me into your fraternity? PS-just to see if practicing is paying off--Very fine? Coin store had so little to work with in mid grades.
