When I think about the older US space missions it always reminds me of the intro to "I Dream of Jeannie"
A couple other cool ones... Coincidently, I have a Mercury Sigma 7 one on order. I'll post it when it's in hand. :thumb:
Here is (in the lower image) a Russian circulating commem from 2001, commemorating the first space flight. The other piece is a German collector coin from 2004 which features Columbus, the European (ESA) lab for the ISS. Christian
That first flight was also commemorated in 2011 of course. Here are two coins (images from the central bank/numismatic office), one from Kazakhstan featuring Gagarin, one from San Marino which shows both Gagarin and Shepard. Christian
I didn't see this thread until today These are "Flown Metal" Manned Flight Awareness medals commemorating Apollo 8 (moon orbit) and Apollo 11 (Moon landing). They were both issued by NASA.
These medals commemorate the shuttle engine program. I've got a set of private issue medals commemorating the Mercury & Gemini missions. I'll try to get photos to post.
Old thread but I found this one while going through some stuff I've had for a while. These medals don't cost much but they're cool and I'd love to know how many are out there. I've got a handful of different space medals that I need to put together somewhere
