Ok, so we all know that most of us folks here have bought a ton of material over the year, some more than others. I want everybody to select one or two of their 2018 highlights, their favorite coins among all the ones they acquired this year, share them in this thread, and explain why they are their favorite. I think this will be fun and we members can bond over each other's highlights. One of my highlights- My 1809 Capped Bust Dime. It took me forever to locate an original one to my specifications. I had wanted one badly before my hiatus, but I couldn't locate a problem free example. When I saw this one come up for sale at a reasonable price, I jumped on it. Now it's everybody else's turn!!! John
This may take a while, 2018 has been a real banger. In 2017 I started getting back into coins but this year I have started to collect exponentially! This will be hard to choose.
I was blessed to have acquired several nice coins this year. But this one still takes my breath away. Absolutely love this one.
My 2 favorite 2018 Highlights were... #1 1876 Indian Head Cent found Metal Detecting Brighton Beach at Coney Island NYC! #2 Meeting @V. Kurt Bellman and seeing @Fred Weinberg again at the Philadelphia ANA Show!
That IHC was a really cool find. To be in the sand all those years and retain that much detail is incredible.
These may make mine look bad but still my first seated liberty half and I also got avery nice barber half for 50% off for my type set! OOPS I cant format a post for the life of me
@Randy Abercrombie one glance at that Seated half and I'd think MS!! Very gorgeous and thanks for sharing!
wanted one of these since they were first discovered, i know its just a die gouge but i liked the story i read about when they first appeared about a disgruntled mint employee creating these..... this one is cool because double errors are just cool... 2000 off center/double struck lincoln cent..
If I had to pick one single coin to be the highlight of 2018 for me, it would be this tiny little thing. This is a Benduqi from Morocco. It is smaller than a dime, and was minted in the mid-19th century. But, it is *EXTREMELY* rare. For this date, AH1277, there are probably 5 or 6 known.
Here is a Highlight from this years additions. This is a favorite coin because its a MS CC. Bought this one from a private dealer.
I love this, it feels like a bit of closure for the year, and while I had some hard times this year I have still been able to enjoy collecting to take my mind off of the war known as life. Its truely been a plesure collecting this year and I can only hope for even better things to come for 2019!
1865 3 Cent Nickel in AU condition, with a 180° rotated reverse, multiple die clashes in this configuration, and a HUGE rim cud. All for $9. Wang Mang gold inlaid knife coin https://www.cointalk.com/threads/go...ory-of-the-rise-and-fall-of-wang-mang.315047/ But its history, value, and rarity don’t matter. It’s just a “silly world coin” from an “obscure area which nobody collects.”
I like the 3 center the best! What is it worth with the cud and die clashes? That was not necessary, Typecoin. Please, please, please, don't start bickering in this thread...... The point here is to bond and enjoy everybody's highlights.
I don’t know, and I don’t concern myself about it. I think it is cool, and I like collecting modern coins that have anomalies which exemplify mint operations. I have another 3¢ with 4 separate clashes which show the rotation of the dies over its use. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/another-overgraded-pcgs-morgan.327312/page-7#post-3243078 That is all. No more will be said.
