Back in 2019, I was at the World's Fair of Money, saw a couple of nice SLQs in a dealer's case, and decided to trade some coins I had brought to the show for the quarters. These became the first coins in my PCGS Registry Set of SLQs, which I've always thought have a great design. The third coin is one of the nicest coins in my set, in my opinion. None of the three received a green bean when I sent them to CAC. Care to guess the grades? 21 slq obv.jpg 21 slq rev.jpg 23-s slq obv.jpg 23-s slq rev.jpg 17-D type 1 slq obv.jpg 17-D type 1 slq rev.jpg 21 slq obv.jpg 21 slq rev.jpg 23-s slq obv.jpg 23-s slq rev.jpg 17-D type 1 slq obv.jpg 17-D type 1 slq rev.jpg 21 slq obv.jpg 21 slq rev.jpg 23-s slq obv.jpg 23-s slq rev.jpg 17-D type 1 slq obv.jpg 17-D type 1 slq rev.jpg

I lack only one coin or two depending on PCGS category. Can you guess which ones I lack? The toughest one to find in a grade I could afford?

I love SLQs and those are some beautiful quarters, I'm still musing on grades - MS63 and better I think. I'll guess the 1916 and the 18/17-S overdate are missing pieces, and the toughest one to find in a grade you could afford? Probably that pretty 1921 or the 1923-S - those are among the finest I've seen. I had a heck of a time with some of the others too - the 1919-D and S for example. I also have an SLQ set that we've been improving for some years - starting out with raw low grade coins in a Blue Whitman folder and growing from there, though I'm not sure how the PCGS registry works, ours are currently in PCGS, NGC, ANACS and ICG slabs, and many are AU or MS now, but our 1916 is FR02 Details, Damaged, we don't have the 18/17-S overdate and in the sub-VF or Details category, I still haven't been able to upgrade the 1919-D (F12), the 1927-S and 1927-D (F12s) and the 1923-S is a Details VF30. Our nicest is a 1929 MS63 FH (we have 3 Full Head SLQs - 1929, 1925 and type 2 1917-D. Today I finally upgraded our 1917-S, type 2 from a VG10 to an XF45, though I don't have the coin in hand yet. Most of the ones in ICG slabs were purchased raw and submitted by me on the CoinTalk special. I also include a Hermon McNeil Pattern Design Medal of the 1916 in the collection for a total of 38 pieces - 2 too many to fit in one Lighthouse album. So how does the PCGS registry work? Here's current pictures of our lovelies! slqs1.JPG slqs2.JPG slqs3.JPG slqs4.JPG slqs5.JPG

You're right about the two I lack, and the toughest to find in a grade I could live with was the 27-S. I passed on a couple of AU58s that had the detail of maybe F-VF and wound up with an AU53. The three I posted on here are all better than 63. I like the honest circulated color on several of yours.

I wound up settling for AU58 19-D and S and 20-D, as the coins in 63-65 were just too rich for my blood.

One other thing: I have a 27-D that's currently in an AU55 slab. My father found it in his coffee change in the late 50s.

I need a few but this is my best one. It’s definitely not in my Whitman’s folder. A 1917 Type 1, No Stars Below the Eagle. Only minted in 1916 and 1917.

My empty slots are the '16, the overdate, and the 23-S. Old LOC album.
The 21 and 19-D are graded and I won't crack them out.
a couple of random quarters, not especially special but to post some pics:

I saw this thread pop up and had to click on Mr. Jello's profile to see if he was back. I noticed a YouTube link under his name and LOL Mr. Angelo is quite the character.

I only have a couple of the SLQs and only one graded. It is a 1924D NGC MS61, however, I did splurg on the 2016 Gold SLQ, which I paid a pretty penny for it.
Thanks for showing us your quarters which makes me want to put the SLQs on my top burner to collect.

I don't own one but if I did, it would have to be a 1916.
