My first coin purchase of this new year, and I splurged big time, so my 2022 collection buying account took a large dip (it wasn't that big to begin with).

    1943/2-P Jefferson Nickel Raw

So my brother and I headed to New Castle Delaware last Friday to attend the 2022 Wilmington Coin Show. As we pulled into the parking lot, I could tell something was wrong. We got out of the car, walked to the door, and saw the sign "Cancelled due to COVID." The purpose of this trip for me was to drop off a submission to ANACS since they were supposed to have a rep there. Well that was blown, so we talked it over and decided there was no way we were gonna go home, we decided to persevere.

I mentioned a local coin shop that I have wanted to go into for years, but never found the time during their operating hours which are strictly 9-5PM on weekdays. We made our way, and walked into a very unimpressive shop with display cases filled with raw, cleaned, 19th & early 20th century coins. Not a graded coin as far as the eye could see. We met the owner named Frank, and my brother asked for the Franklin 2x2 boxes, and I asked for the Jefferson 2x2 boxes, and the search was on.

I have been looking for a raw 43/2-P to submit for my Homemade war nickel set for years, but let me tell ya, they aren't easy to find. I am assuming the difficulty in locating one is because Frank has been hoarding them. He had nearly a dozen in different grades, and this one was the highest graded one which he had graded as AU. Well, I have looked at the coin and it appears to be low MS to me. I'm not sure why he graded the coin AU, but I wasn't about to argue with him either. I bought 19 other Jeffersons and he took 10% off my total bill, bringing the price tag of this overdate to $135.

Of the 20 coin splurge, 11 are being submitted to NGC for grading, including this one.

That is quite a find. No way is it AU. I would say the obverse is a 66. The reverse, with the nicks and spotting is 64. So,it looks 65 to me, and that is quite a good pickup, as that is a brutal coin to find.

So I love AU Coins .
My only purchase of 2022 so far was a AU looking 1892 O Morgan, my photos are not so good but in hand she is really attractive. Has subtle light golden and rosy colors . I think she is a attractive AU-53 Myself

As far as the tail end of last year, not a super splurge dollar wise but I won a unattributed AU-50 1891 O Vam 1A2 on the bay thanks to bad pics which I was super happy to get. They seem to be very hard to find in AU . Huge win for my clashed E set.

Here is my last year’s favorite. It is an 1891cc MS 64 “Spitting Eagle” VAM. Not generally a VAM collector, but like this better date Morgan.

Nice addition to the war set and not bad to start off the new year. Screenshot_20220118-215330_eBay.jpg Screenshot_20220118-215335_eBay.jpg

If we can stretch the definition of "recently" to sometime in the 2nd half of 2021,
I won this AU58 at auction:

Had to wait a few days to post this, but it finally arrived yesterday after a bit of a postal delay. My first classic commemorative. With the price tag under $100 after shipping and taxes, I just couldn't resist. I think the holder did me a favor. I've found you can get some good deals because people tend to pass up these ICG holders. Fine looking coin in my opinion. I unexpectedly got this email this afternoon and I am desperate for someone to help me.
I haven't been receiving the daily coin talk emails for months. I've tried to contact the organization but do not get a reply. Can someone offer me suggestions as to how I can be re-instated on the coin talk daily emails, please?

Very pretty 1915 half. Looks high grade unc from the picture. Isn't this type of item normally slabbed?

Of course if it's in a 1st gen holder & you're really skilled with photo-editing sw you can remove the slab part.
