Here is another “Year of the Snake” coin. Is every country going to put one of these out? It would be cool if the US got on the bandwagon. – Anyways this one has snake eggs with little baby snakes hatching. And look at the Queen's floating head. Kinda like the wizard’s floating head in “The Wizard of OZ”.
I know this is a little late, but I hope you won't hold this against me. Is this Rudolph? Also, contrary to John (sorry man!) I hope the US does not jump on the bandwagon with the Chinese zodiac - or whatever it's called. While the ASE needs...something, it surely isn't the Chinese zodiac! Nothing wrong with appealing to a European zodiac, perhaps from around 1776 or maybe something else, beyond my imagination!
Yep, "rubrinasus" is from a Latin version of the song - Rudolphus Rubrinasus. (On that page there is even a video with a choir singing it ) As for Chinese zodiac coins, well, if the French mint combines the zodiac animals and La Fontaine's fables, that is on the edge but still makes at least some sense. By and large, however, I don't think that too many mints should make such pieces. Come up with something original instead ... Christian
One of the few US coins with a horse that I haven't found (in a condition I like) yet. The Lafayette dollar is the other...which makes my pocket-book hurt just looking at a nice one.
York is fairly affordable until MS66. Some have freaking awesome toning too. Here is ms67 for sale, looks more like a 66 to me once you see both sides, but it has great luster so it probably got bumped.
I agree with you, there is no shortage of York commems...most of them are very generic looking, and I don't really want to drop $500 on such a common coin just for the 2 numeric points on a slab label. I'll probably find an MS65 that I like eventually, once I start seriously looking. As of now, it's mostly just been browsing.
Ill keep my eyes open for you. If it *happens* to have a CAC sticker, we can just rip that right off. You're an NGC-only guy, right?
