Another "multi-animal" coin (image: coinupdate.com), the 50p piece which honors the World Wide Fund For Nature. Not all of the symbols represent animals, as the WWF has lots of other projects these days. But you'll still find many beasts there. Christian
Norway , standard coinage of 1969. The denominations of 1 øre to 1 krone where minted from 1958 to 1973. The design of this serial marks a radical clash with heraldic traditions. The chief engraver allready had made a proposition for a more usual design, but the guy in the ministry of finances who had the last word fancied the coins of Ireland and asked an artist by the name of Per Palle Storm to produce a proposition for coins with a more modern appeal. The 5 - kroner wich replaced the banknote of the same denomination in 1963 was given a more traditional look again. 5 kroner where a lot of money then and one wantd to give the coin with the highest value the most of credit by supplieing it with the coat of arms and the strong norwegian lion.
The French mint has an "animals" series which on one hand follows the Chinese zodiac animals, and on the other hand features Jean de La Fontaine, writer of many famous fables. Next to his portrait are all the zodiac animals. I just came across an image of next year's coin (Year of the Snake, Feb 2013 until Jan 2014) in a media release; the previous ones have similar designs ... Christian
Got these from you-know-who... Had my eye on the Ganesha round for a while, and the snake has an interesting flower symbol pattern for scales.
Is thread directly influenced a couple purchases...soon as I have them, I'll be posting. No one else has posted the coins yet.
