This one is probably my best example of early copper:

Looks suspiciously Danish to me. ;) I know this is the US Coins forum; otherwise I would have brought the latest Austrian collector coins up. For the "at face" version they recently went from silver to pure (Cu999) copper ...

Wow, some stunning old copper guys.

I don't have much EAC, but here are my type set ones.

Cool, thanks for the info. I like coins (modern and ancient) with dolphins.

FWIW, you will NEVER learn to grade well from photographs, IMO. The only way to gain grading acumen is to view coins in your own hands and through your own two eyes. Go to coin shows. Go to coin shops that sell TPG graded coins. Go to auction viewing sessions. Look at as many coins as you can. Looking at photos and grading them based on photos will certainly help, but you'll never truly become a good grader without looking at many, many, many coins in-hand.

    Good luck...Mike

That is interesting because I've gotten somewhat perficient at grading photographs, but at coin shows I'm totally lost.

Easj3699; I agree entirely and thank you for starting this thread. I am a copper enthusiast myself and I love how copper tones and ages. It's about time we have a thread of our own!

Mcblzr; stunning type set for sure! That is something that I haven't actually worked on is a type set. Perhaps I will work on one in the near future. Thanks for posting.

Icerain; your 1901 Cent is very attractive. My guess on the grading is that the Cent is at least an MS60 RB and could go higher but I would need better images in order to determine a more accurate grade. Very nice with lots of eye appeal.

Leadfoot; Those are some awesome cents you have posted. You have a good eye for copper dude. Share some more coins when you have a chance.

Illini420; That is one great looking 1857 Cent you have there. I love when coppers are toned halfway and further brown with blotches of red surrounding the devices as your coin exhibits here. Good eye and very nice coin.
