Congrats Rlm, you must be getting pretty darn close to completing that set now????? What do you need, the 26-S ?
Oh! Yea!! If you consider missing the 14-D and S VDB close. I know how I am going to get the S VDB (someday), but that 14-D.
Nice job, RLM. I will send in my 24 S after seeing yours, that I got raw. Are you collecting all the Lincolns in a certain minimum grade? The strike on the reverse is nice, and great color on the coin.
I am trying to put together a set of uncirculated (plus a couple other nice sets) as nice as I can afford. Right now, that was the last "affordable" one I needed. Only the 14-D and S VDB left, but there are a few (i.e. 14-S, 26-S) that are uncirculated but won't grade.
Thanks Jeankay, I haven't posted for a few days, so sorry this is out of order. Jim responded to this well. I have bought several coins off eBay, unknowingly, that were laquered. This 1911 D was lacquered- pretty hard to tell from the pics. As I am slowly removing the lacquer I find a decent size scratch on the right obverse- no pics sorry. I am trying to get this carbon spot off with acetone and it is smaller now.
Your pics have a bit too much glare for me to say for sure, but that looks to be AU to me. I think I am seeing wear on his cheek and jaw.
Nice 24 S RLM!! and boss that 1915 looks great. Is there alittle machine doubling on the "9" or is it just the pics?
RLM and Doug,- I think that the wear you see is just the glare. I don't have the coin in hand currently but if you look at the first pic of the 1915 you see the cheek is full and not flat. That's how I remember this coin. I will submit to PCGS and repost after 6 weeks +++?? I shouldn't complain. Just submitted 7 Lincolns and all 7 came back graded with accurate grades (IMHO). I was most happy about the 1927 S 63). I will post later after I take photos.
Boss, it is not "flat" that we are seeing, but it sure looks to be that the areas circled have lost their luster. As I said, there is enough glare that it is very hard to pick out.
Tough crowd. Your pulling out the photo shop analysis. Ok, I guess it has wear. I still don't see any wear, but you guys know more than I do. I still like it regardless. The fields appear pretty clean so I thought it might get MS grade. I will submit either way as these seem hard to find and I like the eye appeal. Harryj: don't know if it has doubling. I will have to check coin and rephoto. Will do later.
Tough crowd? Oh yeah, these guys can be brutal, lol What I think would help is white balance on the pics for one, we can;t tell what color the background is. A pure white background helps in " judge this coin " pics. I also suspect the coin is AU and question the originality, but thats based on your pics......Thats not to say it can;t end up in a 62-3 ish holder tho...I have been suprised many times
Thanks Jack, I will rephoto when I have time and post my new 7 coins (which I was pretty stoked about graded PCGS). Tax prep right now so real busy. Gotta to account for all those coin purchases. Will try a white background. It wouldn't suprise me if it's been cleaned and retoned as the luster is muted centrally, but the fields have very little hits on the obverse and the eye appeal is nice in my opinion- which is why I bought. Will repost new photos later.
Now I take exception to that Jack. I am not brutal, merely honest and blunt. Of course I will admit that I have often been accused of being blunt to a fault. But hey, at least I'm consistent
