I was always mildly interested in grease filled/partially filled dies, post an interesting one if you have one
I don't know. Most everything I've looked at indicates struck thru grease. Struck thru cloth? I never hear of that.
I must have missed that thread, what was the consensus as to why there are two 8's???? Certainly grease didn't cause this?????
grease got so hot, and hardened, and broke free of the die. Mike Diamond wrote an article on it, and i believe others have said it is a truly rare form of doubling. Google 'grease hub doubling'. here is one article http://www.lincolncentforum.com/the-non-hub-doubling-resource-page/ and here is Diamonds article: http://www.coinworld.com/news/us-coins/2013/08/migrating-molds-of-stiff-die-fill-create-nove.html
Holy numismoly! That is one cool form of doubling, that should be like the king of grease errors or something
