I like the design of the Balboa, too, but I'm partial to 1947 because that was the year I was born. Chris
I may try to find that date later on. I thought about collecting years from my birth year, but not too many of them are worth.
I found this from my birth year and found it abundantly worth it. You can't beat beautiful women on coins!
The Universal Exposition of 1889 was also the 100th anniversary of the storming of the Bastille which was considered the beginning of the French Revolution. Chris
A similar pose, from a 50 Pfennig coin ... Image: Deutsche Bundesbank (this is the other side). The designer of that coin was Richard Werner, and the model was his wife Gerda Jo (who at that time was pregnant). Interestingly, for many years nobody knew who the depicted woman was. The coin was first issued in the late 1940s, the designer died shortly afterwards, and most people thought that was maybe an academy model, maybe "idealized". In the late 1980s it became known who the model was; the 50 Pf coin was in circulation for more than 50 years. Christian
Christian - I really like the design of that coin for that it symbolizes the rebirth of Germany after the destruction of WWII, knowing that at the time the model was pregnant makes it all the more poignant.
