What I'm surprised by is the 1926 Sesquicentennial Half Dollar. Not only did it have Calvin Coolidge on it when he was alive, but he was also serving as president when it came out. Who knows how they managed to get that approved.

And for my ugly coin I'll go for an SBA, but I don't have a picture of one right now, so use your imagination! :)

What about the Jackie Robinson coin, wasn't he alive when that was minted? Maybe it was a different player, I don't remember well on Saturdays.

Cool coin! Is that a half dollar or a quarter?

While it may be ugly, there's something fascinating about really low grade coins that I love. It's been in thousands of transactions. You wonder how many times it was used to buy food, or thrown in an offering plate, or used to procure services at a brothel, and the list goes on. The stories it could tell...

That one is a 1818 bust quarter.

I agree 100% with you. I have a soft spot for low grade coins because of the potential of where it's been and what it's seen. Every once in a while I'll search eBay for some low grade coins in a type I don't have.

Tonight I snagged a 1798 cent for cheap. Fairly low grade, but legible date

Bonus question: Why did I voluntarily pay $40 for this, when Mint State 1921's could be had for $15, and still make money on the flip? :)
