Didn't want to bog down the site with Max Res.
The 72 is amazing (highest PCGS Business Strike Ike I've ever owned), but the 71-S Proof is worth a little less than double the Buisness Strike. :D If you think that may be a little "Fishy" you haven't figured it out yet... ;)

It may be worth that now, but aren't you worried about the value of a new variety stabilizing much lower? When there are only a dozen known, it can be worth a ton, but who knows how many will be discovered in the next few years.

That is correct, but there is still time. That being said, the value could stay where it is. At most there were probably 2,500 minted. Of those, who knows how many were melted. The number dwindles...
That and add to it the fact that I don't have nearly that much in the coin and I am happy :)

bhaugh, nice coins, congrats on the grades... that 68+ is a stunner, and yeah the other one is very nice, especially given what it is... going to start my hunt for one. Still hunting for the '74 micro-s.

I had some luck cherry picking the Micro-S on eBay before things got crazy. It was originally thought to be a single die, then after my discovery that it had multiple MMP's they are working on like 5 different dies producing the micro-s. I still look for them every now and then, but not has hardcore as I had been. Want the dust to settle.

I'd agree... as I'm looking through the ones I have I'm seeing definite variations in the MM's. The one I initially thought was a micro-s now seems to not be a "true" clear S, but the top and bottom parts are thinner and trending towards clear while the midline is much thicker and tending towards normal. Was looking on the Ike Group site and saw there were different classes, so i'll have to go back through with a real scope and see which are which. I'm also looking for the "eskimo boot" leg on the '74 and I think I have a couple strong candidates for that.

Thanks. Really happy the worm shows up in the true view photos. Not sure if there are any out there, but I'm pretty sure this is the first to be PCGS Secure Plus True View after going through their Restoration process.
By the way, I would highly recommend the Restoration Service they offer.

    I found one!!!

I took a chance on a bad pic eBay auction, but I had a hoping suspicion it was. I felt like Ralphie on Christmas morning unwrapping his BB gun when I pulled it out of the package even before I got the loupe out.

This will head over to PCGS soon as I can and then maybe to get DIVA'd. Although, appears ANACS is at least certifying the variety as a die error (saw one on eBay), but I'd rather get it in PCGS plastic instead.

Send it to PCGS Restoration, I think mine cost $65 to get it done this way. It will come back a lot nicer than just submitting it to ANACS, remove the haze and PCGS will have much better liquidity in the Ike Market. ANACS doesn't certify it as a Night Crawler, just Hubbed Through Debris. I'd rather have a PCGS DIVA'ed, but that's my two cents.

I was going to ask you about the restoration part of it. Would be nice to remove the haze and see what happens. Yes, ANACS calls it only that, and I'd prefer the PCGS/DIVA route also.

We'll see what happens, I'll check back when I can get around to submitting it and get some better pics.

I ran across this 1971-D the other day, couldn't pass it up. It jumped out at me (my wife says she actually understands that)

Paul, that is a sharp 71-D. Is it a raw coin?
Prime, PCGS Restoration seems to be returning grades in a condition 1 grade better than the non-restored coins. In hand, i felt that mine was a PR67DCAM before having it restored. It had the typical haze that a lot of these ike proofs develope. They removed all traces of that, and it landed PR68DCAM. Others using this for their Ikes have experienced similar results.
Hope this helps. When you do submit it and it comes back from grading, please let me know how it turns out. I would like to update the Ike Group's records on this coin, the TPG used, and grade.

Thanks, that's good to know. It's one of the cleaner Ikes that I've seen and it was only $5.99. I couldn't pass it up. Oh and yes, it is raw.

I guess I better clarify my comment, if you have a coin that is being held back by haze or crud or something of that nature, restoration is a great service. They can't take a marked up coin and make it better, but if there is a spot or something on the coin, it is a great option.
(Don't want people thinking they can send an AU58 coin and get it restored and have it come back MS, cause that won't happen)

I'd love to one day find something like that. I just drooled all over my keyboard.

Lee, that's awesome... I've read up the story behind that. Here's to hoping that maybe there's some truth to that nice number someday... :)

Bryan, nice '78. The Ike is on its way to PCGS, and yes, I'm going with the restoration service as recommended, and I'm also doing the TruView because my photo skills are less than good. I will certainly update when I know the outcome. I probably will join the Ike boards as well to report back, I caught up on the thread over there last night but I didn't register as a member yet.
