I took a look at them after I posted the link. I guess some people just really like the way they look. In no way am I going to try to discourage someone from collecting what they like (this variation on toning just isn't my style), I just hope they understand what they are getting.
I had the other one on my watch list as well (the $56 one). That one for sure looked AT, and the 0 feedback was a turnoff for me. The one for $200, I did like the way it looked, but for sure not for that price. For the money, this was a much better pickup for me: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-1973-S-Proof-Eisenhower-Silver-Dollar-Silver-Brown-Box-Silver-/300904168290?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&nma=true&si=do6V2aUTeRFQnOCAwIkx5kWK2mU%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc
Definitely a nice pick up there, congrats! Well then, I can only hope they blow all their money chasing the crazy AT coins and leave the less flashy naturals to us
Looking at the crater on the right, and what looks to be a landslide on the southern rim, I would say your FEV assumption is correct.
Interesting side note, PCGS is working on how to handle the FEV right now. Red Book now recognizes it as the 71-D Variety 1. The Non-FEV 71-D is known as Variety 2. Not sure when the new nomenclature will take effect, but change is coming. It will also affect the registry set composition.
Matt, yes it looks like an FEV, and you outbid me on that one... congrats! Seeing as I know how much you paid, you got a nice deal on it - you can send for re-attribution and flip it for at least double once it's attributed as an FEV.
I saw the plus on the slab and for some reason i clicked the auction for a better look . The pics are decent as far as eBay auctions go and well i was hovering over the reverse it just suddenly clicked something is different here, obviously from the date and mint mark it wasn't hard to figure out what it was. Seeing one in hand its very easy to attribute but i have a hard time when all there is to go on is pics especially if they aren't good. After looking and then looking some more i must have clicked back and forth on eBay 100 times i decided i couldn't pass it up and bought it. Although its only in a 64+ and isnt worth a fortune i got it at the right price and am very happy with the good news that it is indeed a FEV.....
Don't be sorry... I'm happy that another CT'er got it, especially one who appreciates the series as you do. Besides, I already have FEV's in 63 and 65(+CAC). The 64 was to fill a hole in that registry set, and I can't be too greedy...
