I think I posed this before, but here's my toned Ike of the same type. Yours is even nicer! LOVE those hazy blue-golden neon Ike Proofs--Yours is such a keeper! Great grab!

The thread seems to be 99% Ikes. Anyone answer me this Please: Is there a 1976 Eisenhower Type 2 silver proof?
If not, what is that listing on page 228 of the 2012 Red Book? I've read many critiques on the Ike Proofs and all say that only a 1976 type 1 silver proof exists. Yes there were some made but they were all destroyer except for two coins.

    First Ike I've ever bought.
I used to have no interest whatsoever in Ikes, but after lurking around this thread since it was created, they've grown on me quite dramatically and rapidly.

    Very nice Ike!

Congrats, the 1972-s has a variety known as a "Shadow Ike". Read more here: www.ikegroup.org ..

I have some good news and some bad news for you. First the good news- From what I can see, I believe you've done really well your first time out and have a "Shadow Ike" meaning it's probably worth twice what you paid already. The bad news- You're gonna need to go ahead and send it to me. Thanks in advance!

    Zeke,
Some great info can be found in Scott Schechter and Jeff Garrett's book, titled "100 Greatest US Modern Coins". In the first edition, page 16-17 there is a great write up about this coin. According to them, only one example is known to exist. As to why every year it continues to be included in the Red Book is a mystery as there are only one of these coins.

This series is still in its infancy and I would not be surprised if there are more out there that have not be discovered.

There is at least one, that I know of, 1976 40% Silver BiCentennial No S Proof coin which has the Type 2 reverse. It's definitely a rarity but its rarity does not revolve around the Type 2 Reverse. It revolves around it being a "No S" Proof coin 1st and the Type 2 Reverse 2nd.

If I might direct you across the street:

This is the wonderful thing about the Eisenhower Dollar. Since nobody looks at them, rarities continue to be found.
