Merc - any idea on how that could have gotten so worn? Seems it would have to be intentional.... ? Where did you get it?
I have no idea where Merc got that coin but once the rims get ground off in a slot machine, the wear comes rather quickly. I expect that most of these heavily worn IKE's (such as the one Harry posted from SilverState out of Reno Nex) are the result of slot machine damage followed by pocket wear. I did know a fella in Broomfield Colorado that had been carrying his IKE pocket piece for close to 30 years and it was very well worn. These just don't popup that often.
Yes which is why I posted the thanks. I'll usually take any well worn IKE I can find. I'm also very fond of these IKE's slabbed with these lime green PCGS inserts. Why they've turned green is anybodies guess.
I actually just acquired 4 x 1978 Ike's from '78 uncirculated mint sets which appear to have started toning (bought to nab the quarters for my uncirculated Washington quarters '32-'98 set I'm now assembing). Perhaps when I have time I'll post a few pictures.
Highly probable to be a pocket piece. Got it with something like $50 in ikes from a bank near my place.
:thumb:Will do but I am 1st on the hunt/list.I hope I can find 4 graded 1971+1972 if me one of each for you and Me.
While I'm fully aware that this was a "collector coin" and as such never really saw any circulation, I cannot help but be amazed at how well these coins actually look without those circulation and annealing blemishes!
