This is from the Bowers book. 1973-P Mintage 2,000,056 230,798 melted as unsold. Net mintage 1,769,258 1973-D Mintage 2,000,000 230,742 melted as unsold. Net mintage 1,769,258
Simple answer. The Authoritative Reference on Eisenhower Dollars Appendices states that in a letter from Roy C. Cahoon, Asst Director of the Mint for Public Services, to Herbert Hicks, stated that the coins were not produced for circulation because the supply of 1971 and 1972 coins out weighed the public demand for the coins. This letter was a follow up response to a query by Mr. Hicks regarding 400,000 1973 coins being melted by the US Mint. From this, I would assume that approximately 400,000 1973 coins (both P & D) were melted.
1976-S Silver PCGS MS66 - FPL Here's one of my graded Ikes, a 1976-S Silver PCGS MS66 which I believe to be an FPL. What do you guys think? Hope the pics are decent enough. They're taken under natural day light, through the holder so there might be some reflections. There are bag marks across the obverse and some odd crescent shaped marks in the field in front of Ike's face.
Sorry for the delay gang. Things have been really busy here with work or other things that are going on. Here are some pics of one of my other new IKEs that I got. This is another Brian Vaile creation.
Yes, this replaces the 65 that has been in my collection. Brian Vaile who is one of the main guys on The Ike Group is my IKE source for some nice coins. I recommend him to anyone who is wanting to put together a nice collection. I still have a few more to show off that I got from him. I will get those up later. It is sad...It is near 80 degrees and perfect outside and I am sitting here inside! :hatch: Happy Easter!
LOL! I understand... but I at least went out and took a walk before I sat down to coin the afternoon away. :high5:
Wow Joe, well worth the wait. It is hard to get those 76's without alot of tone on them and yours has kick butt luster and color.
Looks like Brian pulled through again. The 71 D i bought from him on ebay is sweet even in its NGC holder. I'd place yours in my collection any day though, it looks great.
