My only Ike is kinda bad... I probobly handled it improperly when I was still a VERY novice colector... Oh well, I'll probobly just end up selling it someday, unless I'm told other wise that it is awesome, but it is not. And the pictures are not the greatest either...
Dhiz, that still is a sweet looking Ike. Nothing wrong with a few wear marks. I wish my '73' and '73-D' looked like that.
Stewart: That's a sweet 71-S, is there some tone under the second "S" of STATES on the reverse? Also, I quite like your disclaimer, made me chuckle.
Jello, Thanks, They sure are hard to find with cheeks like that Krispy, Yes she is just in the beginning stages of toning. Disclaimer: made me chuckle when I thought it up also.
This question might have been asked before but I can't find it: Why were the 1973 P&D's never put in to general circulation. What a waste to destroy these coins. Does anyone know how many were destroyed?
Not sure about general circulation. but I have seen Bu P&D rolls, I was out the USA at that time:kewl: To fined a nicer one buy 1973 mint set, there some mint set are as low as $5-8.00+s/h
The 1973 P and D Eisenhower Dollars were never released for general circulation because the demand for dollar coinage was not there. in the previous two years they had minted more than enough to satisfy the need for dollar coinage for commerce and trade The U.S. Mint dropped the number minted dramatically for 1973 1971 P - 47,799,000 1971 D - 68,587,424 1972 P - 75,890,000 1972 D - 92,548,511 1973 P - 1,769,258 1973 D - 1,769,258 It is not that they destroyed any of them before the 73 release, It was that they just did not mint them in the high numbers of the previous two years. The 1973 P & D Ike's were made available only in Mint Sets that they sold to collectors. Great Question Stewart
I thought I'd add my lower grade Mint Set for comparative purposes. I will post two sets of the 1974 Reverse which shows evidence of what I think I will call package doubling since it shows on photos shot through the packaging...sometimes, but not on the coins themselves. This is the 1974-D which is in the same set.
This is one of three IKEs that I just got in. Only time to put up one tonight. You will just have to wait to see the other two. PS - this is a pop 1 coin with 2 higher.
Tater, these are the ones that I was telling you about. My camera and computer are not getting along tonight. encil: I am trying to get the pics ready, but I should just quite while I still have the pics and they have not been deleted yet. Will work on them tomorrow.
