I received a new Ike in the mail today- my first MS68 silver business: 1972-S. Boy oh boy, am I happy with this latest upgrade. It is far and away MUCH better than my 67. The difference is striking. Lots of photos for this one 'cause I'm excited about it. Side by side comparison in the same shot: Side by side comparison in separate shots under identical lighting conditions. Here, you can see that the strike quality of the 68 is far superior. It has to be a fresh die strike. It has that glossy, SMS proof-like appearance, very much UNLIKE the 67. One more extreme angle showing the PL quality: It's the same with the reverse: I also have a 1974-S (PCGS MS68) upgrade on the way from Heritage. It appears to have lots of satiny frost throughout. That's what the TrueView indicates anyway. I'm hoping it will be just as nice as my new 72-S. Stay tuned....
8 out of 15 are BU Uncirculated. 7 would have to be return for exchange from APMEX. kinda dissappointed from them that their due diligence is bad. When they say it is BU, it should be Brilliance Uncirculated. At least these 8 made the BU grade. Edited: These are just all Clad Happy collecting
Two new upgrades to the registry this week. Between eBay bucks and Discover card cashback, the 1976-D T2 was FREE!
I was lucky enough to cherrypick an unattributed 1971-D Friendly Eagle variety Ike! This coin lists at $190 (PCGS PG), but it sells in the real world market for around $150. I nabbed this one for $25 plus shipping- not too bad. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1971-D-PCG...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649 Here's the reverse pic from the listing. The Earth just gave it away. I think at some point I may send this in for attribution and reholdering. Earlier in the week I stopped by one of our local antique malls, and I found this 1976-P mint set. It was in a cabinet with not much light to see, but I could tell the Ike looked dark. So I had them get this out for me for inspection. The Ike exhibited some nice, rustic toning on both sides. At $4.99, it was a no-brainer for me, especially since all the coins had some degree of toning. This one will end up in my next Dansco album set. I scanned the mint set to show that this is basically how the set appeared to me from inside the cabinet. I couldn't tell how colorful the Ike was until I had it in hand. The Ike really pops in direct light.
My budget doesn't always allow me to look at MS68 Ikes but I found this nice silver Bicentennial 67 a while back. I like the subtle gold toning
I bought a bicentennial pack last week just to get the Ike. I like the light gold, iridescent toning.
This week I acquired yet another 1971-S "Nightcrawler" Ike, only this one is a Top Pop grade. Now I can finally showcase this elusive variety in my official registry set.
They are TOUGH to find. I was outbid on a RAW nightcrawler on ebay the other day- the first one I "found" that wasn't identified as such by the seller. My nucelear bid was $150, but someone else had obviously noticed it too. https://www.ebay.com/itm/SPECIALLY-...vip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.m43663.l44720 Here is a link to the Nightcrawler discussion thread on the Ike Group Forum. http://forum2.ikegroup.info/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=1864
Very exciting to know...I'll keep an eye for one...wish my coin buddy JTS we're here to ponder this coin with me...RIP!
