Silver quarter? by Odomax posted Mar 20, 2017 at 12:48 PM 69 silver? No mint mark by Odomax posted Mar 20, 2017 at 12:48 PM
While they were still minting 1964's in 1965 and 1966 ( I assume because of the metal change they wanted to use up their silver the result being a HUGE amount of 1964 quarters and dimes) along with clad quarters in 1965 and 1966, a rare 65 or 66 does exist on a silver planchet. By 1969 this is highly unlikely. There is always the possibility that one silver blank could have been stuck in a weird place, and eventually became dislodged and was used unknowingly with the 1969 clads. Or, as was mentioned in a different thread, someone could be cleaning up at night, find an old blank on the floor or behind a machine, and just tosses it in the hopper with the other clad planchets. That being said, I don't think this 1969 is silver. Weight will confirm that 99.9% of the time. 6.25 for silver 5.67 for clad. Even if the clad was plated it prob would weigh less than 5.75.
Gold plated South Dakota Coin Star freebie. (working on the croppage) It looks cleaner and nicer in hand.
I'm not an expert. But this coin has more "added S's" than any other. Something looks off. Has it been examined by an expert and passed?
OK that's good. I was concerned about the dark area on the right side of the S, and while the slant angle of the mm looked good, the actual S itself seemed like a different style from other 32 S's I have seen.
