Where does one use a metal detector? My husband and I were just talking about this the other day. So many places around here are illegal.
I have had pretty good luck obtaining permission from private homeowners, and also old farms and homesteads. I know that in heavily populated (east coast) areas or anyplace where there is some historical significance involved, you may run into some legal issues. Old city parks are good hunting grounds too, but a person needs to find out what kind of rules are enforced. There are plenty of "busybodies" who live around the perimeter of some parks who think that the park is theirs, and will call the police if they don't like what you are doing ... legally or not. Once again, I think that older, private homes and farms are your best bet. Just cover your holes and try to leave the ground the way you found it.
Love. This. Thread! IMHO - one of the most quintessential designs in American numismatic history, the Walking Liberty will continue to be a favorite for generations to come.
I have been debating getting rid of quanitity and buying quality. When I see these, it really makes the decision easy. I think I just want to fill my Dansco 7070 with examples like these. Of course silver is down now, so hopefully it will go back up.
