Lehigh, thank you for the kind words. I LOVE the Liberty Walking design. Even though I am a "self-proclaimed" Washington junkie (as that is the series I am trying to collect the most right now.), I think my 1944 Walker might just be my favorite coin in my small but growing collection. Even more cherished than my 1932-D Washington (it is FR-2) but only by a smidgeon. The Liberty Walking design just has so much art and meaning behind it. That eagle of the reverse is also really awesome. Probably the best eagle ever depicted on a U.S. coin. I almost feel as if that Eagle could kick my butt, haha!
I just had to know what this would grade by a TPG so it got sent to NGC. Anyone care to guess NGC's opinion?
Here is the reverse of the 1935 Walker. I paid $30 for it raw in 2010. It was a good day at the Naugatuck coin show.
That reverse is great. $35? Steal. The reverse bumps it to an NGC 66, imho. I am no good at guessing what they give their * designation to. I think it would only grade 65 (Maybe a plus) at PCGS thanks to the hits on the obverse, in particular, the bad mark above IGWT.
I paid precisely $30 for it. The strike is not strong enough to get the coin a 65 or a 66 IMO. In hand I graded it a 64 (which would be worth much more than $30). I'll snap a photo of the slab when I get back from lunch.
I have never shown this on cointalk but probably the nicest/craziest toned 1956 frankies I ever got came out of an original 1956 Double mint set. I believe both coins graded MS66 at NGC and I wish I would have kept the nicer of the two...please excuse the photo's as this was when I was a novice with a camera lol
