This is exactly what I am looking for to upgrade my 1909 vdb in my 7070. I am a sucker for green toning and have not found one like this yet.
This is my 1921 Peace, it is not really colorfully toned, but an even yellow with a darker part between 12 and 3 o'clock
I hear you gbroke, I've been looking for something like this for a long time. I was shocked when there was only 1 other bid during the last Goldberg Auction. One bid opened at $110, I bid $120, and then everybody dropped. Does anyone else think my $120 bargain looks a tiny bit similar to this $100,000+ Matte Proof Lincoln in terms of the coloration? (Of course, no comparison with the surfaces and rarity!) I am not sure who the owner is of the $100,000+ MPL, but the photo was taken by Todd of BlueCCPhotos. $120 + bp $100,000+
I like the colors better on yours for sure. also, wow $120 is a super price. Be sure to tell me when you come across another one and you donlt want it.
Sorry, but I have a definite preference for the second coin. However, I have a much stronger preference for your price.
The MPL was actually a little north of $200,000. I love the toning on both. To have a coin similar to that MPL is quite a feat. That is probably the best looking Lincoln ever.
I'm with Rob on this! Here's a toned T$ I bought from a forum member ATS. It's an XF45 with surprising luster. Lance.
Sorry WingedLiberty, but I have seen Jonathan's 1909 VDB proof in 67+RB in hand and I also saw your new 1909 VDB in hand at Goldberg's lot viewing and they aren't really that close in hand. That VDB proof is just spectacular and the colors are vivid and the luster is just out of this world. The entire surfaces of the proof coin look like liquid, but a liquid that reflects back a rainbow of color. I have never seen a business strike VDB come close to that coin and very few matte proofs could even be considered similar to the quality of that one. Your coin has much more subtle color and the luster just doesn't compare. It's still a cool VDB and I think you paid a fair price for it, but I wasn't surprised the lot didn't meet the Goldberg's estimate of $200+
Never appologize for an opinion, Illini. This is a forum of free expression and I have learned so much here. Obviously, I have never seen the $200,000 MPL in hand, so I defer to your comparison. However, I dont think anyone would believe that something that costs $200,000 would be in same ballpark as something that costs $120. My only point was that the coloration was a "tiny bit" similar. Sort of like comparing a 2011 Ferreri with a 1973 Pinto where both had a similar paint job (LOL). In any case, I think my $120 coin is really great -- and that's really what counts right? I am just tickled pink that I was able to get that one at that price! I am going to send this coin off to Phil Arnold at PCGS TrueView to capture with a good camera. I struggle with my iPhone. I will post the TrueView Photo when I get that back in a few weeks.
Not much tone to this but, just picked it up today for an exceptional price... and my first mercury dime...
My guess is I will pretty much see you in a couple weeks. I have no idea how much or if I will be able to get on line for the next couple weeks. Enjoy!
I scored this 1 and 28 other Morgan/Peace dollars in an online auction the other week. They finally came in today. I also scored some Silver art (porn) bars and 7 ASEs, 4 of them "W" Proofs. I will get pics of some of the others up later. I just couldn't wait to get this 1 posted.
