Great to have you here! Looking forward to seeing some of your toned beauties. Although they don't have to be toned to be appreciated.
We understand how scanning really dislikes toned coins. Nice pickup up for $12. I believe that is around melt value.
Thanks for your welcoming message. How to make a nice picture of a coin is my problem at the moment. What equipment do I need ? I now scan with an HP Deskjet F4180 ??? Not too satisfied with the result. Only one coin in the collection I can call a beauty with regard to toning. Rainbow colors at the edge. A 1999 2Oz Australian Kookabura. It's the toning of the 2008 Silver Eagles I am not that happy with. Copper edges. And from all the Eagles I have in the collection only the 2008's show this ??? Am I the only one ? Dear gbroke , My mother tongue is not English. I try my best.
And you do extremely well, infinitely better than my Belgan. When scanning, try and use the highest resolution you can, but preview to keep from scanning the background and using up memory.
May I ask what the price was on this piece? I'm only asking because it sounds like it was a lot of money. It's exquisite.
Hello gbroke , First contribution to the "message/talk board" I meant of course. Looking for an explanation why the 2008 Eagles have a copper edge toning , Google brought me to this cointalk forum. What color toning do you like best ? Rainbow ! I was not able to give my preference unless I had subscribed. I desperately needed a username (& password) and simply chose Roygbiv. Have another nice Australian toned coin. A 1995 1Oz Kookabura. It's so beautiful that I start wondering if it's not a fake one. Can't ! Or ? Both sides equally with a golden shine. Trying to find out how to show the scanned picture here (tried...). Not that good with computers... I don't understand them. But it's mutual. I'll give it a try. Cross your fingers. Wonder how it's going to look like. Keep them crossed.
IT WORKED !!! More or less. The color is a bit lighter though. More golden. This is brownish. I'll try the Canon at work tomorrow when the boss has left for a meeting. :smile
