I'm always somewhat suspicious of this type of toning (I'm not sure I can always recognize AT vs. NT) but I lingered on these a little and decided to pull the trigger..... 1945-D 1950-D 1951-D 1957-D
I actually wonder if it does make a difference. Maybe it's some kind of electrochemical interaction between the pure copper core and the cladding?
Cut it off at 1964, then. Nicely toned clad Ikes seem to be easier to come by than small dollars, but you do have to pay up for them.
This is not a good angle. I did this angle to show the toning. I took a video of it, but some CT'ers hate video's so I didn't post it. The video shows very proof like fields. But I don't know what the official standards are for the designation. I can't capture the PL luster on regular photos. I don't have those photography skills for coins.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I wasn't aware that any UNC-spec Eagle was minted with the polished dies necessary to be a PL. I believe it's either very obviously a proof or very obviously not.
As I said, I am no expert. It's just a straight bullion piece I bought cause of the toning. I could upload it with a link at some point. I could PM the link for anyone who's interested.
Here are a few more for you guys. This is one of my favorite coins I've bought off of ebay. Seller didn't mention anything about any color, saw a little green in one of the pictures and decided to buy it,long behold this beast shows up! Cracked out of a NGC 62,now in a PCGS 63 slab. This would have been one of my favorite coins if not for those carbon spots, but I do enjoy her. This one I snagged up on ebay as well. Old NGC 62 holder, now resides in a PCGS ms64 slab. This one is currently at PCGS awaiting a crossover, doubt it will get the 67 grade that it was currently slabbed in,but bought it for the color.
A few more I had. Old pcgs MS60,now resides in a PCGS MS63 holder. My avatar picture. LOVE the color on this guy. Picked it up for 180$ in a old Anacs 50 slab. This DOWNGRADED to a 45,but love the color.
