I call her blushing beauty. Not really I do like the Rosie cheeks though.

  8. Hi everyone,
I just joined this forum to inquire about a 2005 Lincoln Cent that is silvery blue. Doing research, I only found older coins with blue toning. It is not artificially enhanced and the darker spot over "IN G..." is not dirt. Any opinion is appreciated.

Could be ms70 coin cleaner that made it blue. I'm not a big copper toner guy though. Start a new thread about it and see what the copperheads think

    Heat will also do this.

  11. thank you for your response...does a copper cleaner do that to a zinc coin?

  12. Here's the reverse side. The coin hasn't been in circulation and in flawless condition. It's been kept in a cotton bag, in a small wooden chest in my office. I have seen these type of "toned" coins... but usually from the 60's (and unc.) CM160812-14314702.jpg

The coin is entire surface is copper coated. A copper cleaner will do to that coin just what it does to copper. When you are done, you will have a bright shiny worthless coin that no collector would touch.

DO NOT CLEAN ANY COIN FOR A COLLECTION!!!

  14. I would never clean my coins with a cleaner, lol. The coin was never cleaned or exposed to extreme heat.

I am no chemist, but I recall that copper sulphate is quite blue. Maybe a surface layer of copper atoms reacted to something in the environment and created a thin film.
