If you had an early collector membership, it is free of they don't CAC, then a little bit later they charged $2.50 for failed CAC coins under the collector memberships. I have a dealer membership and everything gets charged $12.50 pass or fail. Not sure if he still does collector memberships or what the charge is. You can call and find out.
The last submission where I had coins that didn't pass was Nov. 2014. At that time I wasn't charged for the failed coins. I see nothing on their site now that says if they still do that or not. I became a member in late 2009.
I'll just add my experience with CAC's charges. I'm a collector member and they have been $12.50 pass or fail, paid in advance by check, but the return postage they request on the form is different (lower) from the actual fee, so they send a separate email upon shipping stating the actual cost, but just disregard it. Then around March of the next year a check comes in the mail, quite by surprise with left-over monies. No itemized list of how or why the monies are given....just a check and note of thanks. They send nice gifts around the holidays too...gave me a new coin book just for being a member. They are some good folks!!!
Here is an email I received in Dec. 2012 where they note that coins not passing will not be charged. My last submission was Oct. 2014 where I received credit for 4 coins that failed to pass. I have received no other email or notice that this practice has ended.
A pickup today from my LCS, ANACS MS-64. Little bit generous by ANACS to give it a 64 IMO, but couldn't resist the toning.
I finally reached agreement on price on the below coin with the seller. I don't love the grade, but I hope I can eventually get this into a 65FB holder if I am able to cross to 64FB first (not a given at all given the wild toning). There are some big hits on the obverse cheek and neck, but I've seen similar hits on a 65FBs. I am not a huge variety guy, but I really like the 41-S RPM because the S/S is so pronounced. An underrated variety in my opinion.
I don't usually comment much about coins posted here (although they're all great) but dang! That dime is stunning!
